WILD RIDER

Lyrics & Chords

by Justine Lucas

INTRO: C C F-C, C C Am F, F C, C C (guitar)

VERSE 1:

C F C
Asleep in the stable

C Am F
Wax on the table

F C
And tools at his ankles

Forged in the fire
Letters in iron
The scar-bearing rider

And up with the sunrise
He unveils his eyes
The world at his side

CHORUS:

F
In the sea of strangers

C
She searches among them

Am F G
Seeing his face in everyone beside her

Dm
In the sea of performers

C
She searches among them

Am F C
For the wild -- rider

VERSE 2:

He put on her shoes for her
Unbraided her hair
Walked her down to the fair

In the heat of the spot-light
Blue shadows on white
She was a sight

And higher the sun rose
He gave her water from a garden hose
And kissed her wet nose

(CHORUS)

In the sea of strangers
She searches among them
Seeing his face in everyone beside her
In the sea of performers
She searches among them
For the wild rider

INSTRUMENTAL:

C C F-C, C C Am F, F C, C C  (guitar & violin or harmonica)

VERSE 3:

He took off her shoes for her
And he braided her hair
Another day at the fair

He watched her round ribs rise
Like a barrel of wine
Deep heavy sighs

He hung up her saddle
Finished the handle
And blew out the candle

VERSE 4 (Verse 1 repeat):

Asleep in the stable
Wax on the table
And tools at his ankles...

(CHORUS)

In the sea of strangers
She searches among them
Seeing his face in everyone beside her
In the sea of performers
She searches among them

For the wild rider x7

For the wild ---

Fan reviews

What people are saying about the song:
"In Wild Rider, Justine Lucas brings us deep into the heart of the journey to find true love. With painterly expressiveness, and a voice full of sweetness and powerful longing, we witness the powerful heave of a woman longing for the return of her Wild Rider. Lee Corbie-Wells' fiddle work adds a sensitive harmonic counterpoint that evokes the atmosphere of the story. A wonderful piece!"

~ Pianist Erik Burns

"The Wild Rider is delicate and contemplative, yet cathartic and powerful. Weaving harmonies and instrumental textures take you on a journey through landscapes and scenes, comfortingly familiar, dreamy and mysterious."

~ Singer-Songwriter Zoe Yungmi Blank

About the song...

"Wild Rider" by Justine Lucas

Inspiration:

Justine Lucas wrote this song about her partner after the first day they met. Little did she know, this rambling Canadian cowboy she'd fallen in love with instantly over night would later become her husband, and introduce her to a world of travels with high-production circus troupes such as Cavalia and Cirque du Soleil.

Synopsis:

The song tells a story of the friendship of a stable boy and his show horse. It takes place behind the scenes of a circus, and describes a day in the life start-to-finish for the horse and the performance. Listen to the lyrics and allow yourself to visualize this magical world.
